APPLE VARIETY DESCRIPTIONS
ASHMEADS KERNEL
Traditional russet with aromatic ’acid drop’ flavour. Excellent keeper. Very attractive large white blossom.
BLENHEIM ORANGE
Heritage variety. Nutty taste and crumbly texture. Keeps its shape well when cooked.
BOUNTIFUL
Good disease resistance, easy to grow and crops well from a young age. Consistent crops of light tasting juicy fruit.
BRAMLEY SEEDLING
Very old and popular variety. Strong growing with exceptional sharp flavour. Stores well.
BRAMLEY 20
Highly recommended compact version for smaller gardens. Exceptional cooking flavour and quality. Stores well.
CHRISTMAS PIPPIN
Good choice for beginners. Easy to grow giving large amounts of blossom and sweet honey flavoured fruit.
COX SELF FERTILE
Heavy crops of sweet aromatic juicy fruit. Very self fertile.
DISCOVERY
Crisp juicy red apples to eat straight from the tree. Good disease resistance and an early crop.
EDEN
Modern dual purpose variety that is ‘non-browning’. Crisp, aromatic and sweet, excellent for juicing.
ELLISONS ORANGE
Healthy disease resistant variety. Red juicy apples which develop ‘aniseed’ flavour with storage.
FIESTA
Excellent garden tree. Cox like flavour and texture, very good for juicing and crops well in cooler climates.
GOLDEN DELICIOUS
Sweet honey flavoured and juicy. The fruit is much tastier when grown in our cooler climate.
HEREFORDSHIRE RUSSET
Looks like a Russet, tastes like a Cox! Hardy with very good disease resistance. Moderately vigorous, shapely tree that sets fruit easily.
HONEYCRISP
American variety bred to be cold tolerant and store well until March. Non-browning with sweet mild ‘fizzy’ flavour.
HOWGATE WONDER
Trouble free variety producing heavy crop of enormous, sweet, juicy fruit. Keeps shape well when cooked.
JAMES GRIEVE
Reliable crops of early dessert fruit. Excellent flavour and keeps well. Retains shape when cooked and is wonderful with cheese.
JUMBO
Large pale green fruit. Retains colour and shape when cooked. Refreshing aromatic and tasty. Good juicer.
KATY
Excellent garden variety. Disease resistant. Early season crop of sweet juicy red fruit. Consistently heavy yielding and a good pollinator.
LAXTONS SUPERB
Superb hardy late season dessert apple. Sweet aromatic fruit said to resemble a Cox.
LIMELIGHT
Neat compact disease resistant tree. Abundant crops of crisp refreshing fruit.
MERIDIAN
Excellent all round variety. Disease resistant, high yielding and stores well until March. Juicy and aromatic with a hint of lemon.
RED DEVIL
Excellent modern garden tree. Healthy with good disease resistance and self fertile. Delicious scarlet strawberry flavoured fruit gives pink juice.
RED FALSTAFF
One of the best new garden varieties. Heavy cropping, frost resistant and self fertile. Very high yields of crisp juicy fruit.
RED WINDSOR
Easy and reliable ideal garden variety. Very hardy, disease resistant, compact and self fertile. Fruit has Cox like flavour.
SCRUMPTIOUS
Bred specifically for our garden conditions. Self fertile, disease resistant and frost hardy. Neat trees are free flowering and produce crisp, sweet, fragrant apples best eaten straight from the tree.
SPARTAN
Easy and disease resistant Heavy crops of juicy crisp dark red fruit. Good pollinator.
SUNRED
Specifically bred to be very dwarf and so is ideal in pots for the patio. Good crops of tasty red dessert fruit.
SUNSET
Excellent garden apple. Similar to Cox but easier and more disease resistant. Self fertile. Reliable heavy crop of crisp intensely flavoured fruit.
SURPRIZE
New variety unlike any other. Glossy orange skin and completely pink flesh. Crisp tasty fruit, good for juicing.
TICKLED PINK
Beautiful new apple with ornamental red flower in spring followed by tasty bright red apples with red flesh. Disease resistant. Gives pink juice.
TRINITY
Unique new variety. Attractive pink blossom and early ripening red fruit with red flesh. Skin dissolves away when cooked so no need to peel. Easy to grow with good disease resistance and makes pink juice.
WINTER GEM
Highly recommended for its outstanding flavour. Strong growing tree with regular heavy crops of rich aromatic fruit.
WORCESTER PEARMAIN
Reliable crops of firm juicy fruit. Said to taste of strawberries.
