Sweet & Chilli Peppers
Sweet Peppers & Chilli Peppers
We love growing Peppers at Lyonshall. Did you know that peppers are an excellent source of vitamin C, especially a ripe pepper, which turn from green to red, orange or yellow. Peppers are also a good source of vitamin A (yellow & Orange ones) and fibre. Sweet peppers also have antioxidant properties, which may help to protect against diseases such as cardiovascular disease and some cancers.
Eaten raw or cooked they add flavour and heat in all sorts of dishes from salads to a hot curry!
Easy to grow. The important thing is not to start too early unless you have have a heated glasshouse. We recommend if possible to grow in a glasshouse or polytunnel. If growing outside do not put them out until at least the end of May. You may have to start to grow them on a sunny windowsil, conservatory or porch at first.
Most will need support and need feeding regularly once the fruit have set.
Some people like to pick them before they ripen but the nutrient value increases as they mature.
Below is a list of the varieties we are growing in 2024
